Perplexity is an AI-powered search and research service that responds to questions with a synthesized answer and links to the sources used. Standard Search handles quick factual exploration, while Pro Search and Deep Research investigate more complex topics across multiple queries and documents. Follow-up questions retain the conversation's context, allowing a broad query to become progressively narrower without rebuilding the search from scratch. Spaces organize recurring research around selected files, links, instructions, and collaborators, while additional tools can create reports, files, and small applications from the gathered material.
Perplexity removes much of the busywork between a question and a useful map of the subject. The citations expose original sources and give readers something concrete to challenge. They are not magical truth sprinkles. A smooth paragraph can lean too hard on weak material, skip an important source, or attach a link that supports only half the sentence.
